The original name was Practikal Home Plans; A logical and affordable home design service with a cheeky substitution of the letter 'K'. As the business matured and became a full-time endeavor, Kalvin decided to revise the name in early 2025. The result was:
EMBER DESIGN
Thus this little operation was formed, setting out to create the best custom homes possible!

Kalvin Koetting
Founder, Designer & DraftsmanKalvin began a career in architectural design & drafting in 2017. Before founding Ember Design, he had worked for a highly esteemed architectural firm in Northern California, a structural engineering & design group in Idaho, and similar companies.
Residential design feels like Kalvin's calling in life. He's truly passionate--obsessed--with creating the best possible home plans in an innovative way. He is innately quiet-natured, but loves to talk about and share the excitement of building homes. Kalvin will genuinely care for your project, and takes great satisfaction from a job well done.
He had been accepted to pursue a Master's of Architecture in Arizona, but steered away from his pursuit of architectural licensure for the time being. While initially forming Ember Design, he spent three semesters as an adjunct university professor in Idaho, teaching Architectural Design, Architectural Graphics, CAD, and SketchUp.
He has hands-on construction experience and is knowledgeable with various construction methods and MEP systems.
